Today we talked about the importance of sketching and how it is connected to prototyping as well as the elements of Video Prototyping. We got introduced to two Video Prototyping assignments where one is invidual and the other is a group project.
For the sketching part of the lecture, we did an exercise where we did a portrait of an image we say. Johannes said we can view each part as a shape like for example the lips were made of triangles. This can be helpful since I am not the best sketcher so to view everything as “flat” rather than a person for example makes it easier to work on the image. I plan to continue sketching everyday for at least 10 minutes to improve this skill to make the ideas I have become better/clearer when I put them on paper and hopefully I will be able to improve the details that I put into a sketch in the future.
For Video Prototyping we talked about having a story to tell where we set the stage then present the audience with the problem at hand. We also talked about the different camera shoots as well as looked at adverts/examples of video prototyping.
I have learned from this that videos and sketching are considered prototypes, since my idea of prototyping before hand was a tangible object where it has the important/main functionalities at hand and using effects on the video to make achievable functionalities present. Things such as a different effects of the different camera angles and when to use them. We saw an ad were the angle felt wrong when we saw it in class. Where we saw that the it took a while to present the contexts and the issue where it took 27 seconds for the viewer to start understanding what they are presented with. A good video prototype would show the issue in the first 10-15 seconds and would not have unnecessary shoots.
