Design Lab

As an introduction to the machines in the design lab we were given a challenge to make a step stool and the ones who use the most machines would win but it was mostly to start using the different machines.

We started with a paper prototype as an idea for how it would look on the end. This was a very helpful visualization tool for everyone. After that we decided to distribute the one wooden plank into the different pieces and the different measurement.

We encountered an issue where two legs were not close to the top part, that meant that we had to come up with a solution, so we decided to sand paper down the sides of the top part for the legs that reach it so the can all be on the same height of connection. It is a normal part of a design process where you constantly have to iterate and come across things you thought would work.

You can see the final prototype above where we decided on having a cloudy type of shape for the stool. All of this was screwed together except the top part where we nailed it to the lower part. At the end our stool worked and we even got two bonus points from Mattias since he liked how well the construction and the different design was. We used all the machines except the planer and another one. Looking back we could have used it in the beginning so our wood would look better and more professional.
