Interactivity M2 (W1 – Monday)

We were presented with new module where we have to experiment similarly to the first module but rather than sound it will be as one LED light as an output to convey a characteristic. On initial thought this could be seen as a difficult task but sometimes with less you can express and find a more solid idea by the end. We have to think about how the light become expressive through the patterns as well as what the context is for example we were shown macbook sleep lights, would it be different if it is a visible light when the laptop is on as well.

We need to be able to tell how can the light become expressive through the patterns. Moreover, how would a different context in the experience. An example could be Pressing a button and after a couple of times it will skip a blink or the sequence becomes faster based on the pace of the button being pressed. An important thing to keep in mind is this is more of the quality and personality than a concept with users in mind.

A real life example of a constraint I’ve experienced was once I was using a trial version of Ableton where you can only have 8 tracks including audio inputs and midi inputs. I found that it became more of including what is needed than just having a lot of different sounds and what value each sound is bringing to elevate the final product or if it is replaceable with something else or not needing more than 5 tracks to accomplish the end goal . I learned that you can do a lot by having some sort of limit even when I had the full version as the idea will become more complete in achieving the set goal.
