Today we worked on making the sequences of each example within the idea of having a plant metaphor for our object where it would be able to react to the different light outputs and react accordingly with different sequences. We had 6 different LDR sensors and one of which was to tell the direction of the object as we would have an agitated state/”put me down” state when the object is picked up as that is the nuance in our example, using light as guiding tool of what is expected from the user. The difficulty of that is at times the light sequences become subjective of what the user is meant to do. Things such as calm, dying down, agitated/mad are understandable. But within the shadow long things such as a heartbeat could be understandable but being able to distinguish between them might be difficult.
This became clear as now we have are thinking of sequences that could be useful for this abstract object. We can still implement sequences that we already agreed upon for the plant metaphor idea but it wasn’t ready. We had agreed upon the calm state, bloom state where it goes from the shadow to a good amount of light. The experience of those was we found common ground on what it should look like as categorized emotions and build from there, since if something is blinking fast you either attend to it or leave it alone depending on where the user is.
For thursday we aimed to make different states for this object to become something more abstract as during coaching we were told it was too direct as well and to move from something that has its own preconceived notions. Now our mission was to make something that looks inviting to play with. We will also each try to have the different states ready for thursday. By having each of us do one of each it can become clear as two people have different perspectives on what the experience would be for irritated but a common ground would most likely be found.
