Today I shared the the playback sketch where the sample would become faster the further you get from the body parts and vice versa. This wasn’t what we initially wanted but it is playing with this sound idea. By implementing a sound like a crying baby it helps the interaction becoming trying to stop the discomfort of the sound and responding by trying to stop it.

I got the playback rate to work as you can see above, originally it was supposed to be change in pitch but I wasn’t able to get it to work properly. The experience of this suggests one pose over the other. Could become a guider through having the correct playback rate of the sample at a specific point.
Constraints:
- Physically –> not being able to lower a sound completely through elastic bands (Volume)
- How can we make sound constraning through movements
- What sounds? (annoying, closing the body, desire to stop the sound?)
- The experience became more challenging but it had a contraining aspect to it.
- We can implement this to have the constraining aspect strongly present
Visual + height restriction: There was a vignette effect where the canvas becomes brighter the closer you get to the specific movement which was to squat down for the sound to stop. The sound used is ghost frequency which is supposed to make the head vibrate and a sense of discomfort. What we found out was that you need in-ear headphones for it to work properly but our class mate was able to do the desired move.
The example above shows an implementation of the volume and playback rate in the same example. The constraining feeling is reached when the wrists are met. This could be a fundamental part of our final sketch. We still lacking the guiding movement aspect but we are looking at panner. We are at a point where it feels a little like using the body as a controller.
We have achieved a more continuous feedback aspect. We also tested sound that is annoying such as crying made the users want to stop it. sounds that call for action which did work similar to the height restriction one but how can we lower the importance of the kind of sound to guide the action.
Coaching:
During coaching we discussed how can we guide the user to the pose where an idea arose of having the sample working at the correct playback rate as it can become a better experience than going down and the sound stopping. By implementing that it can become a good way to communicate that the desired pose has been met. But if we want a more fluent experience there shouldn’t be a right pose but rather the sound inputs being used as a way to guide through the output.
We also discussed how it is better to focus on one aspect rather than multiple, since we had a little of everything. We decided to leave the visual and physical aspects and focus on the main one which is sound.
We discussed how can we implement more dimensions. We out the playback rate idea and volume together and we aim to have a panner controlled by the core of the body position.
