Tangible Embodied Interaction (Week 1 – Friday)

Today we presented our video. The final video prototype as well as the final different states at the end of this entry. It is easy to say our video editing skills were not the best but the scenario was understandable by people. The idea of relative time was explored which was interesting according the the teacher. The students liked the two outer circles that signify the progress of your position and the train. By using the colors it became apparent that we have preconceived notions of these colors in a way for the red and green but maybe not for the mint color which served as a in between where you are 1 minute a head but usually for public transportation you should aim to get there at least 5 minutes prior to the departure time. A slide we added last minute was the potential improvements slide where we mentioned being able to choose an earlier or later departure through sliding the screen or cancelling a monitored train, syncing a weekly schedule of monitoring times, and lastly how do we know if the person is walking to the train or driving/biking to the train station and how would that be implemented in the time display.

We included the process of the design in our presentation which the group before us did but David said that it was not necessary for future presentations as we only have 5 minutes to present. Looking at some of the other videos it became apparent that some seemed more professional and we landed somewhere in the middle as our story was relatable and by the end you would understand the intent of the prototype. With a minute time limit it was interesting to see how hard it was to fit all that we want although we went a couple seconds over the time as it counted in our presentation.

Some people did not notice the way color/time is a clear signifier of your current position and the train since the trains usually leave when the time reaches the arrival time but the counter to that is the progress bar meaning the train would be positioned at the top signifying a full circle which gives the user information that the train has arrived early but it won’t leave based on the time shown on the watch.
